Vodafone India approaches SC for extension of licences expiring in December 2015
Vodafone India has approached the Supreme Court (SC) of India to seek the extension of licences in six circles which are expiring in December 2015. Earlier, Vodafone had approached the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for an extension of these licences for a period of 10 years but DoT’s refusal made the telecom operator move to SC seeking interim relief against the decision.
It has also asked the SC to abstain DoT from auctioning the frequency airwaves in the circles of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh (East) and Rajasthan in the meantime.
SC will next hear the case on December 18, 2014 and has also issued a notice to DoT to respond to the petition filed by Vodafone India before the hearing.
